Upper Carniola – Gorenjska before lockdown

Visiting Gorenjska before lockdown. At work, I was told I had to take last year’s leave and so I had been home since Wednesday. However, the phone rang for the first time at half-past seven. And by 10am I was only doing business things. I had enough of such a vacation and I told myself that I would drive somewhere I would not be able to go tomorrow. The final decision was Gorenjska. I packed my business laptop and after 45 minutes I was already at Bled.

There I stoped at the bus station and made a couple more business calls. I came to Velika Zaka because I wanted to climb one of the surrounding hills for a view, but the parking fee of 3 euros made me a little upset and I drove on to Bohinj. In Ribčev Laz, I parked at the store (allowed up to 2 hours). I headed to the lake and took a short walk. In the park, I found a bench in the shade and took out a laptop. In the next 45 minutes, I cleared up emails and calls that built up.

I didn’t want to go home yet and drove to Ukanc (15 minutes). From there, 553 steps lead to the Savica waterfall. They did not charge parking (€ 4) or entrance fees (€ 3). I set off along the groomed path and began to climb the stairs. Apparently, I’m in really bad shape, and somewhere halfway there is a bench with a table that I used to rest and made a couple of calls and replied to a couple more emails. I climb to the top and for a few moments, I even enjoyed the view of the waterfall on my own. It was just the right time to visit, there were no tourists, the weather was ideal and everything was free. The way down was of course much easier, a bit strenuous only for the knees.

Now it was time to go home. However, the timing was quite wrong, in Bled I catch the rush hour around 3 pm and in Ljubljana similarly around 4 pm. This probably prolonged my return by half an hour. But even that doesn’t spoil my day, which I think I used quite well considering all the circumstances.
