Skaručna

With a group of friends, we go once per year to restaurant for lunch/dinner. This year we chose Skaručna, located 10 km north from Ljubljana. We arrived later in the afternoon. We got a welcome drink (kind of Brady and honey beer) and sat at our table.

For starters we had beef tongue, asparagus and some cheese spreads with homemade bread. It was followed by beef soup.

Next it was soflty coocked maize with some cheese, baked in owen.

While we waited for main dish we got some salami cured organically, cooked eggs and horseradish.

Main dish was slowly prepared Ox knuckle with vegetables and potato. Salad was lettuce in chicory.

Dessert was cottage cheese rolled dumplings with lush honey dressing.

All dishes were accompanied by fine wines. We started with some light white ones and slowly moved to stronger ones.

So what can I say about the experience? The first thing you see on the entrance you see that has rustical and retro equipment, music is played from old LPs. The food was really tasty. It is based on traditional dishes and local ingredients. The main theme is beef, horseradish, local cheese, and wine.

What I missed? The main motor behind this place is owner Slavko and he was absent. I was there a few years ago and he had enhanced experience with his raspy voice and a special presentation of food. Also, golden trout prepared in the special way was not included in the menu this time. Alchohol there is in abundance and both times I was there it got me by the end of the evening. This meal was 100 €.
