HOT HORSE
This fast-food chain (Hot Horse) has a tradition lasting a quarter of a century. Their main product is a burger made out of horse meat. They opened their kiosk back in 1995 in Tivoli park, close to the Tivoli venue. There is parking nearby, free for 30 minutes. So usually we would pass this place later in the night after the game or concert and order this burger as a midnight snack. They were opened 24/7, once per year, they would close for a few hours because of inventory check-up. At that time not many options were opened at those hours, so if you would be hungry you would risk an extra few hundred meters for this tasty food. Nowadays opening hours are not the same.
In the beginning, it was just possible to order a horse burger and select a combination of toppings and condiment that would come along (lettuce, tomato, onion, jalapeno, tabasco, nacho cheese, mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup, in wintertime Sauerkraut). Of course, you ordered a horse burger with everything. That meant it was spicy and you would eat it fast. All sauces would mix and pour down your chin, hands. You would be a complete mess when you finished, but full and satisfied.
Later they expand their menu and today you can get beside burger, steak, tortilla, hot dog, sausage, goulash, pate all from horse meat. There are also salads and fries, For a short time, they offered special Deli burger as it was trendy to offer special burgers and craft beer. One can order basic drinks (water, juice, beer). Now they expanded in the franchise and you have two new locations in BTC and Rudnik. Also, there is a shop in the Koseze market where you can buy horse meat to prepare it at home.
It is not part of this new age burgers, but a traditional one with different meat. In some cultures, horse meat would be a sin, but here it OK. To conclude, if you are in Ljubljana you should try this burger. Order it with all toppings (6.9€) and bite into its flavors. I know you will enjoy it.
