Deep Purple in Tivoli
Tone and I went to Tivoli for the Deep Purple concert and sat in the stands. The bend came to Ljubljana to present the latest Bananas album. The band has defined hard rock for the past 35 years. The big hall in Tivoli was sold out, the ticket price was 5990 / 7000 SIT. The preliminary group was September with Benč. Finally, at 9 p.m., Deep Purple takes the stage in the line-up: Ian Gillian (vocals), Roger Glover (bass guitar), Ian Paice (drums), Steve Morse (guitars) and Don Airey (keyboards).
They opened the concert with Highway star and raise the temperature in the hall, the central part of the concert was dedicated to the new album, they closed with the timeless Smoke on the Water. They return for an encore with three songs, the last one being Black Night. This was the end of the almost 2-hour long performance. Technically they play flawlessly, maybe some minor improvisations. The rhythm section works, Morse holds the solos, the new keyboardist has caught on. Barefoot and dressed in white, Ian may no longer have the voice for songs that require extreme range, but still performs fairly good.
