Sting in Stožice, Ljubljana 2024

Bought a ticket a few months before the concert for 80 €, if he is coming again to Ljubljana. Forgot about it until I didn’t get a reminder today. After work, I went home, ate pizza, and fell asleep in front of the TV. Woke at 7:30 PM, called a taxi, and arrived at Stožice a bit after 8 PM. There was already a big crowd waiting to enter the arena.

Inside Giordana Angi was on stage. She didn’t impress me, she had an average performance with a lack of energy, alone on stage with a guitar, playing background music from her laptop. She finished after half an hour. I expected more from an act before Sting. They needed 15 minutes to prepare the stage for him. Time to get a drink, 5 €. In that time I met a couple from volleyball days and Sanja.

Around 8:45 Sting came on stage to the right side of the full Arena with his bass, dressed in white, followed by Dominic Miller on solo guitar and Chris Maas as drummer, both in black. It was a basic lineup called power trio. This was his fourth concert in Ljubljana and third on tour Sting 3.0, after Dresden and Zagreb. Started with a few songs from the Police era (Message in a Bottle). Continued with random song order by picking titles from a hat. The crowd was following him with clapping and singing. He even managed a few Slovenian words like “Dober večer Ljubljana, Hvala Ljubljana”. He turned back to hits like Englishman in New York and Shape of My Heart. After one and a half an hour he finished with Every Breath You Take. For encore, it was time for Roxane and Fragile. Still strong at the age of 72, voice notas in young age and arena acoustics is generally bad. I walked toward home for some 30 minutes to get out of the crowd and called a taxi, 8 €.
