Pixies+Koala voice-KRIŽANKE-12.7.2017

For Alenka’s birthday, we went to Križanke for a Pixies concert. We were in no hurry to join first band Koala voice (Manca Trampuš, Domen Don Holc, Tilen Prašnikar and Miha Prašnikar), a Slovenian indy four-member band that is otherwise promising. We sat on a bench with a drink in front of NUK before entering Križanke in honor of the old days. We catched the end of the pre-band’s performance, which is energetic.

It was time for the Pixies to take the stage with Joey Santiago (guitar), Black Francis (guitar & vocals), David Lovering (drums) and Paz Lenchantin (bass) for the third time since 1989 and 2004. The ticket was on presale for € 39. on the day of the event 45 EUR. According to a estimate, around 2,000 fans gather in Križanke. Despite the years, they still sound good with their mix of musical genres. I dislike their lack of communication with the audience. The setlist was not prepared in advance, but they have just under 100 songs studied and then, according to their feelings, they play what they think is right for that concert. Also this time they made a good selection, most of them are from old albums, a third are also new songs from times after the reunion. Otherwise, I was more of a stranger to the new material, Alenka was a bigger fan between us. Although they lost on power they still with songs like Where is my mind (ending the concert before the encore) show why they are one of the most influential bands of their generation. They finished their performance in less than an hour and a half. A solid, nostalgic experience that I spend in good company.
