The Great dictator in theather
Katka mentioned that Jurij Zrnec has the main role in the new comedy in the SNG The Great Dictator. After returning home, I bought 3 tickets (20 €, parter, 5th row), where Katka and Marija should join me. Unfortunately, they let me know a couple of days before the show that they will postpone the show due to illness in the ensemble. New date was on the day we have the 30th anniversary of the primary school. Of course, I didn’t miss this and I asked for the next date for the show.
The sisters don’t have time even on next day and I had to find new co-sufferers. Andreja and Vesna finally agreed. On Saturday I was waiting for them in front of Drama in slightly rainy weather. Vesna was there on time, Miha stopped as well. Andreja we waited, of course, but we still arrived before the show at 19:30. We got pretty good seats.
This play is based on Charlie Chaplin’s 1940 black-and-white film of the same name as a satire of Nazism. The first film with sound was powerfully created by Chaplin. So Zrnec had big or small shoes to fill, because there is also a difference in physical appearance. Where one is tiny and dark, the other is large and bright.
I was definitely looking forward to the show. It started out a little slow. But Zrnec soon took on both roles, where humor had to be maintained more by movement than by words. I think he did quite well, despite the unparalleled physical exertion under the spotlight. Bojan Emeršič (Napoloni) with his energy and Tina Vrbnjak (Hannah) with her beauty were also noticeable in the play. At the end of the two-hour show, they received a five-minute round of applause.
Satisfied with what we have seen, we did not want to go home yet, so we stopped first in Žmauc and finished in Parliament quite late.
