Redipuglia, Aquilea and Udine
I went on yet another game of Udinese. But this time was a bit different. First I went from home on the Nomago bus, 2 € ticket, until Vrhnika on the highway and then on the regional road. We passed Serpentines, Planisko jezero, … It took 2.5 hours to arrive at Nova Gorica.
Robert picked me up at the bus station. It was early for the game so we first drove to Redipuglia. There is an enormous war memorial to 100.000 soldiers from WWI. Across the street, there is a park with remains from war, but it was closed because of renovation.
From there we moved to Aquilea. This place was an important city/port in Roman times. Today here is the biggest remaining from that period, UNESCO protected. Just driving around you can see via (street), wall, port, villas. At that time it became an important place for Christians. Today there is Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta from the 11th century where you can see vast and beautiful mosaics, entry 5 €, parking 1 € half hour.
Now it was time to drive to Udine. At Stadio Friuli, we had a parking spot reserved. We entered the VIP area where we had something light to eat (prosciutto San Daniele, cheese, curry) and a few drinks (beer Moretti, prosecco).
Now it was time for the game with 23.000 spectators. It was a game with few chances and 8 yellow cards Lazio got in front with a goal from a free kick by Pellegrini. At half time some dessert and drink in the VIP area. In the second half, Udinese equalized from a free kick by Lovrič and a deflection by Walace. Before the end, from half turn, Vecino put Lazio to lead and that was the final result.
After the game, Robert drove to Nova Gorica and another, faster bus to home. After a long and interesting day I went to bed early.
