North Iceland

After a few hours of sleep I proceeded, had breakfast and decided to take another detour, extra 3h/250km by coast instead of Ring road. So I stopped at one farm, seeing dog, sheeps, goose, house covered with grass and another waterfall. At Vopnafjörður saw lighthouse and graveyard. Soon after got really sleepy, so I had to stop for a few hours. On way to Husavik again some great views. Port town was nice, all about whale watching. While I saw them twice already decided to skip it. In Whale museum talked with staff, found a way to skip paying tunnel toll. On way to Reykjahlíð, I circled the Mývatn lake and soaked there in Nature Baths, 30 EUR.

Next, it was Goðafoss Waterfall, dark, magnificent with turquoise color of the water. To Akureyri went over instead trough mountain. After a short walk went for lunch, fish soup and rotten shark, 21 EUR.

On way from the capital of North picked two hitchhikers from states, butcher and construction worker. Their final destination was 2h out of my way but I said why not. Before long gravel road, we went to a gas station to fill the tank. At Hvitserkur we had few drinks and cigarettes with a view over rock formation at the coast, we even saw a whale in distance.

I left for Reykjavik, 3h drive with 2 stops on way. At the entry to the city, GPS took me for a 15min tour of Industrial suburbs. Finally, I arrived at 1 AM to the hostel at bus depo, 15 EUR bad in a dorm, 10 EUR breakfast, 7 EUR beer. I had dinner, remaining tuna, cheese, gin. Shared it with Tom from the UK, he was pissed that he was on the wrong terminal and his family was on the other side. After half an hour his father in law picked him up. At reception talked to the Polish girl and went to bed around 2 AM.
