10.9.2021 Ljubljana-Postojna-Krk(Poljice)
Tedej called me at work on Thursday afternoon and asked if I would go to sea over the weekend and I agreed. The next day he told me that we are going to Krk after work. After work, he picked me up by taxi (I’ve been waiting for him for almost an hour). On the way it was crowded and we went to the exit center out and along the old road to Logatec, even Unec had congested traffic and in the end we needed 1 and a half hours to Postojna. Andrej and Mea ere waiting for us in Postojna, we moved to their car and we wee already on our way to Ilirska Bistrica, where we stopped for a short time at the school. At the border we showed ID and PCT certificate, arguing about whether masks are needed or not in the car. We lost about half an hour at the border. Follow by Reka and the Krk bridge and the path to the village of Poljice, where we arrived at 21:30.
We took accommodation with Patrik and Željko, owners of the inn Tri maruna (3 chestnuts) and several rental facilities. We rented an apartment at the top of the cottage with two rooms, a kitchen and a terrace with a beautiful view of Rijeka and the church bell tower. It costs 20 € per person. For starters, we were served a homemade aperitif, but they were in no hurry. Each got his drink in different cups. For dinner I ordered grilled squid and tomato for salad, side dish is baked potatoes. Not bad. The problem is the salad, the others ordered lettuce or mixed, but we only got 2kg of home-grown tomatoes and 2 leaves of lettuce. When it comes to digestives, good selection at the bar, which is interestingly equipped. Dinner with a drink was charged 20 € per person after conversion. We moved to the apartment, where we talked until 1:00. In the meantime, a dormouse visited us.
11.9.2021 Krk:Malinska-Haludovo-Poljice(uvala Čavlena)
The bed is not bad but I woke up at half past five for the first time. From six o’clock onwards, the church bell tower is 20 meters away ringing every hour. We slowly got up and gathered on the terrace where we had cheese, salami, bread, coffee for breakfast. We went out slowly. The first stop was Malinska, parking 7 HRK, I had to pay some bills for Barbariga. Of course, I needed to be careful what I collect at the ATM so that they don’t cheat me. At post they helped me fill out a payment slip. When I got out, Tedej has cut himself on a branch and was bleeding, but the blood stoped quickly. Went in the pharmacy for sunscreen and we were ready to move on.
The next stop is the Haludovo Palace Hotel in the suburbs of Malinska, parking 7 HRK. This hotel was built in the early 70s, also with an investment by the owner of Penthous. The entire project is expected to be worth over $ 200 million. Architect Magaš (known for Poljud-Hajduk Stadium) was planning a hotel in the style of brutalism – bare concrete and functionality. The hotel was the most expensive and luxurious hotel in the Eastern Socialist bloc. The rich and famous from the west were brought here by a special plane, the locals did not have access. However, the hotel went bankrupt after only one year of operation. Since then, it had lived under Yugoslav rule. After the secession, refugees lived here in the first half of the 1990s. The hotel last operated in 2001, although some apartments on the edge of the estate were until 2018. Now the view is sad, the interior is in most cases peeled to concrete, a lot of broken glass, graffiti, greenery slowly overgrown paths. Some investors would take over, but they would also have an exclusive beach that didn’t go through. If Krk is on your schedule, you can also take an hour for Haludovo.
From there we go to the Plodine store € 50. We returned to Poljice, packed for the beach and went to the bay Čavlena. After a few kilometers of dusty macadam, the path leads to the coast, where there is a large parking lot and shade with concrete floors. A couple of concrete tables were already occupied there. We also occupy a wooden, slightly torn bench. From there it is 15 steps to the sea. There were a couple of boats parked in the bay and a few more people were sunbathing on the pier. We settled in and Andrej soon pulls out the grill and starts grilling. He fed us well with a variety of meats, a little too much. Next to meat were the obligatory vegetables, tomatoes, onions and cucumbers. We bought bread in the inn, still warm, but for 30 HRK. We were there until the evening where we play “man don’t get mad”. In the dark we notice something jumping on the trees, we thought they were dormice again, but the lamp reveals the rats. That drove us home. It was time for games in the apartment again, now there’s Uno-Enka. I don’t brag but I was doing well. We were in bed again around 1am.
12.9.2021 Vrbnik, Krk, Čavlena, Postojna, Ljubljana
I woke up a couple of times during the night. In the morning, the bell tower doesn’t bother me until it rings longer time for Mass during breakfast. After breakfast we packed up and paid. We moved to Vrbnik. Follow the old city streets (here the narrowest street is only 43 cm wide) to the top and overlook the bay. The next stop was the town of Krk. first we stopped for a drink in the Volsonis bar (70 HRK) and then a walk through the old town, where it was slipery on the rocky ground. Now we were already hungry and we sat in the tavern Galija. the interior is beautiful, they have a view of the inner garden where the turtles were walking. Since they are known for good pizzas, I opt for a pizza with hot salami, truffles, peppers and onions (85 HRK) and I was quite happy with the choice.
For the end, once again to the Čavlena bay, lied down on the beach for a while, got wet for the last time in the sea and headed home at half past six. There was a que of few kilometers in front of the bridge, in between we went along the side roads to gain some time. It took us about half an hour at the border. In Postojna we moved to my car again. Then drove along the old road, because there was another traffic jam on the highway to Ljubljana. I was home around 11pm.
It was a nice weekend trip quickly organized where we had ideal weather up to 30 degrees, the water temperature was already at the limit (22 degrees). The accommodation was ok, we ate well, we also saw a few things. In short, it was a decent farewell from the summer.
