Thai Zone, Ljubljana
Thai Zone is a new Thai restaurant in Ljubljana. Located in the Blue Lagoon, Linhart Underpass 1. They are the first venue on the left as you descend the stairs from the direction of the Exhibition and Convention Centre. Aoy and Aleš just opened the door of their restaurant. This couple met in Thailand and were spreading thai cusine in few places until they opened their own street food restaurant.
Here you will find on the menu 10 traditional Thai dishes: Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Pad Kee Mao, Stir-fried, Red curry, Tom Yum, Crispy chicken, … The base is rice or rice noodles with sauce and vegetables. For most dishes, you can choose between chicken, pork, shrimp, or tofu. One dish is 8 €, with shrimps the dishes are 9 €, you can take the drink as self-service from the fridge. Otherwise, they are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
In this charming place, there is a preparation counter with burners next to the wall, in between there is a serving counter and next to the window there is a dining counter with chairs. There are three more tables outside. They can probably squeeze 10 people inside and there are 12 chairs outside. It is more crowded during lunch and my colleague and I had to wait 10 minutes to get our order. You can call upfront so food will be prepared on arrival (030 361 277).
I of course ordered Pad Kee Mao, a spicy dish I love very much. I have to commend them, it was spicy and it was delicious. Otherwise, it is a bit different from my first choice from Roza slon, it was not with beef, it contained cauliflower, carrots, baby corn, but it was good. So if you are hungry and nearby I suggest you stop there.
Next time I stopped here I ordered a red curry.
