Cap Haitien to Santo Domingo

As I couldn’t find any alternative transport to the Dominican Republic, I took the guide from the previous day. I paid $180, with a visit to Fort Liberte. In the morning, again with hotel transport downhill, changed cars. We drove to Fort Liberte, visited the fort with a guide who lives there and makes some sculptures. Now we moved to the city for a short walk to the church and the park.

We drove to the border at Dajabon. There were few check points were they take your data and fingerprints., … The guide helped me cross the border with all guards on my way, trying to get some money. After all stamps and 10$ tax on the Dominican side. Augusnel introduced another guy who took care of me on the other side. He took me to the bus station with a motorbike 3$, 3 people plus baggage. I bought a bus ticket, but first I had to change $ to local pesos (10$ was 550 pesos). I was short 50 pesos for the ticket and this guide gave me 50 pesos, so I bought a ticket for 600 pesos to Santo Domingo. We moved to the bus station, where I waited for 2 hours. Interesting just to watch people there (shoe shine, disabled, loud conversation, hot).

The first bus was not for me, so I got on the second bus. A kid sat next to me. We were 6.5 hours on bus, few stops, one longer in Santiago, and found glasses. After arriving in Santiago, I went to Mc close by for dinner (7€). From there, I walked to the hotel. It was a long walk first around the administration buildings, then in the residential area. But at the hotel, they didn’t have the room I had a reservation for.

The solution was that I paid there 12$ and moved to the next hotel Renacer, 500m away. Basic room, breakfast included, but good price performance. In the evening, after a shower, I walked around, but no bar was open around midnight. I found one stall that sold fast food. I didn’t have change, and a local bought me water. Back in the room and fell asleep in front of the TV.
