London to Nassau
From Victoria coach station back to Heathrow airport (8GBP – 9€), took around 1 hour. I arrived early and wanted to use a credit card for the lounge, but something wasn’t registered OK, and I had to wait in the terminal. In that time, I spoke to Andrej and Rony. Another flight with British Airways on Boeing 777 (10:10-14:35; cca 7000km, 9.5 hours). I had aisle seat 35H, nobody behind, so I could lean back. Also, the seat next to me was empty. So I hoped to get some sleep on the flight as I was awake already for 32 hours. But I wasn’t that lucky. I was woken every 15 minutes by running children, food, or neghbour that went to the toilet many times. Tried to watch a movie. Service in general was OK.
After landing at Nassau Lynden Pindling International Airport, there was a big line at the document check. You need to fill in the Disembarkation/Embarkation Card, not enough pens, the name of the hostel problem, online form is in the pilot phase. Enabled Airalo eSIM (Caribbean, 2 weeks, 5 GB, 28€). Next was the bus to Nassau. There is none at the Terminal. I walk out of the airport and turn left in the scorching sun. I waited on the side of the road toward the west, where Nassau is. But I was picked up by bus on the other side, where there was no obvious station. It goes inland to the east before heading back west by the beach. You wave to the mini bus for 15-20 people, jitny #12. On the bus are just locals. There is no space for big luggage. At one stop, the tourist couple didn’t want to get on the bus? The price (no ticket) is 2.5 Bahamian dollars (equal to 2.5 USD), payable at exit. I gave him 5 USD, because the driver waved me from the other side and waited for me to cross. It is not on schedule, aprox need an hour, and there is one every 30 minutes until it is dark (approx 6am to 6pm). Some parts of the road had heavy traffic.
Finally, I was in Nassau. The last bus stop is in Downtown. Someone asked me for a cigarette, I had one Coke (2$). As folks from the cruise ship were back on board, many things were already empty/closed. I visited the colorful Straw Market and Parliament Square before I moved inland. I visited Queen’s staircase (66 steps, waterfall on the side). One lady helped me find my way. On my way to the hostel, I crossed some doggy part of town. I stopped at the liquor store and bought one Kalik beer, 3$. In front of the store, some interesting people sat and enjoyed their drinks. In HumesHouse hostel, you have self check-in (39€ per night). Good place for hostel standards (location a bit out, clean, nice common spaces – kitchen, terrace, garden, living room). After a shower, I spoke to a Russian guy, washed some clothes, had a cigarette, drank tap water, and went to bed around 8pm as I was extremely tired.
After 4 hours, I woke up and was completely confused about what date and time it was. I needed a few minutes to straighten it out. I moved to the common room and slept on the couch as the bunk bed was too short for me.
