As I like sushi and I visited Japan, nephew and niece bought me course where I would learne how to make sushi for birthday present (80€). I missed few announced dates. Last Sunday sister reminded me of it, I checked for options and it was next day. The course is organized by Ostri Rob (shop with japanese knives) performed by Megumi Yoshida.
I arrived a little before 6pm at location (a bit hidden). It was quite hot even under AC, I had some water before we all assembled around one huge table (16 people)
On the tabel we had all necessary prepared. Instructior gave us some into information. We first pepared salmon (took out bones, off skin and learned how to cut it for sashimi and maki). Other ingredients were already sliced (cucmber, avocado, carrot, omlette, string beans).
Next she showed us how to prepare rice (type of rice, how to cook it, cool it down, add vinager with salt and sugar). Now we were ready to roll our first sushi – futomaki (on bamboo mat we had nori sheet, put on rice, fishe and other ingredients before rolling it). Next was westernized uramaki with rice on outsude (needed foil for this), followed by hotomaki (square one with just one ingredient). We finished with nigiri, where rice ball is covered with slice of fish.
Now it was time to try what we prepared. We got wasabi, soya sauce and ginger on side. They served as also a glass of sparkling wine that was paired nicly. I would say my product was somewhere in middle comparing to others. Main problem was I didn’t press it enough for first two rolls. Nigiri was hardest and there I would need most practice evenit looks most simple.
After we finished around 9pm I bought all ingredients I need to try it on my own at home (62€). We also got booklet with description of process of making sushi. Some of my product I took home so family members could try what I made.
