Ivan sent an email to our group that Paraf is coming to Ljubljana, to Kino Šiška. I let that slide and, much later, I bought a ticket for the concert (28€) and forgot about it. On the day of the concert, I got a reminder that I read too late. The concert was combined with the movie “Punk pod komunizmom” by Andrej Košak. So I was late to the event and missed half of the movie. Here you could see Slovenian bands from the Punk era (1977-1984), speaking about those times, problems with cop, military service, …
After the movie ended, they had many of those different band members on stage for a short debate. I went to a bar where I met Ivan with the boys. Speaking about those times, because they lived it through, and I was just a kid then. There was also Vidmar and Longika. Now we had to get out of the venue before reentering, because tickets were sold separately and as a bundle for the movie and the concert.
With all that confusion, they were late. Buldogi came on stage around 21:40, and people were still slowly returning. They opened with “14. let”. On stage, they had good energy, first with one singer and later joined by a second. After half an hour, they finished their act.
It took some 15 minutes to prepare for the main act. Paraf opened with instrumental Karmine. In the beginning, Pavica (Vim Cola) was singing songs from the postpunk phase and the last album. The crowd was quite anemic. After Valter joined the stage with songs from first punk album, some youngsters got on stage for stage diving. In 1.5 hours, they played 27 songs (twice on encore).
The movie was full of nostalgia about the times when Punk emerged in Yugoslavia 50 years ago. And the concert prolongs experience forst with Buldogi. As for Paraf (members from all albums Valter, Pavica, Zdrave, Raul, Deni, Bobo, Iva and Vava), they combined punk songs with post-punk songs and new album after 40 years in their farewell concert. In a way, this was closing for an era.
