The Chemical Brothers – Zagreb – 2019/10/12

My cousin writes to me from Zagreb that she has 2 tickets for The Chemical Brothers concert and since she won’t go she would give them to me. I’m basically not a fan of any kind of electronics. But it is this Manchester duo that reminds me of Bol in 1999 with the song Hey Boy Hey Girl. OK, now I have to find someone to join me. On FB I wrote who would go along, I provide tickets and another person provides transportation. Dunja replied, whom I haven’t seen in a couple of years. Great opportunity to reunite.

On Saturday, October 12, 2019, we leave for Zagreb in the afternoon. On our way, we stopped at the gas station once. We were looking for an apartment from my cousin in the city. We sat with them for a while, had a drink, Tin showed all his toys. We parked near the venue. Since it was still early we had another drink somewhere along the way.

In front of the Dom sportova hall, we talked with a journalist. At 7 p.m., the entrance opens, at 7:30 p.m., James Holroyd’s set begins. We even had VIP tickets but that doesn’t really mean much, a seat in the part of the stand where it’s not too crowded. We went inside and took a look. And out again for cigarettes and drinks. Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons arrive on stage around half-past nine and opened with the song Go. The concert develops into an audio-visual spectacle. The songs blend nicely with each other. They persist for about two hours. We move under the stage for the last half an hour. Dunja danced more than I did.

Definitely, a nice experience, meeting people I haven’t seen in a couple of years, listening to music after 2 decades. I was surprised that the venue wasn’t packed.
